Selling on Craig's List
Selling on Craig's List (craigslist.com) certainly has its advantages. It's free local classified advertising and unlike newspaper advertising, you can add nice big color pictures at no extra charge.

Craigslist is a great way to sell items that are of interest to people in your community who are willing to pay cash. It's also possible to accept postal money orders, but checks have to be discouraged. It's not just that it might bounce, but that your bank might charge you a hefty fee if it bounces.

If the buyer needs a few days to get the cash, you can arrange to accept a nonrefundable deposit of $10 or $20 or whatever seems appropriate. Give a receipt in writing and REMIND the buyer that the deposit is nonrefundable and how long you'll hold the item.

If the buyer doesn't come through, you can sell it again.
